Lakes And Mountains Homes for Sale 1

Maine is as well known for its lakes, ponds and rivers as it is for its historic coastline.  There are three distinct lake regions, each boasting a primary body of water with hundreds of neighboring lakes, rivers and streams with spectacular mountains.  All offer varied year-round adventures.

The northern Maine lakes region is best known for Moosehead Lake, the largest body of water contained within a northern state east of the Mississippi. Mt. Katahdin, the Appalachian Trail, and the Allagash Wilderness Waterway are just a few of the incredibly scenic recreational attractions located within or near to Moosehead Lake.  Steeped in history dating back to the 1700’s, the lake has hosted leaders of industry, presidents, and the world’s most discriminating outdoorsman seeking a four-season paradise. Greenville, Rockwood and Beaver Cove are just a few of the towns that offer services to this area.

On the western side of the state, the Rangeley Lakes region has been a destination for world class sportsmen and families for generations offering six major lakes including Rangeley, Cupsuptic, Mooselookmeguntic, Kennebago plus hundreds of smaller lakes, ponds, rivers, and streams all surrounding Saddleback Mountain and the Appalachian Trail.  The villages of Oquossoc and Rangeley are great spots to find all the amenities needed for a visit to this year-round recreational locale.

Also the western side of Maine, close to the border of New Hampshire, you’ll find Kezar Lake.  National Geographic once named Kezar Lake as the third most beautiful lake in the world.  Truly generational, families from Boston, New York City and Philadelphia have established family retreats since the early 20th century.  To this day, the lake remains largely undeveloped.  Center Lovell and Lovell provide necessities year-round.

Known as the Lakes Region of Maine, this area is headlined by Sebago Lake but the region offers hundreds of additional lakes and ponds close by.  This area is known as a recreational paradise enjoyed by summer and year-round residents with outstanding boating, fishing and swimming opportunities.  Winter skiing is less than thirty minutes away. Portland, Maine’s largest city, is just 25 miles away offering first class restaurants, art galleries, shopping, concerts, theater, and other cultural activities. Portland’s International Jetport and Logan International offer easy access.  For the day to day needs as well as more local flavor, the more populous towns of Raymond, Sebago, Standish and North Windham are spread around the 100+ miles of coastline of Sebago Lake and surrounding bodies of water.
